New Year's speech

In Grade 7 all students wrote a speech in their response to the task provided by UNICEF and TV2. Some students recorded their performances and participated in the competition "Barnas tale 2020". We are very proud of one of our Grade 7 students who was chosen to hold the New Year's speech this year! Well done Josefine! The speech will be broadcasted on December 31st.

In the spirit of giving, for Christmas jumper day this year, the AIS staff decided to not only spread some cheer at school but also to raise money for Blå Kors and their Christmas initiative, minJUL. We proudly raised 2000kr to support vulnerable children and families over this Christmas period. https://www.blakors.no/minjul/

As part of their Design lessons, the Grade 6 students are competing in a logo design competition against all IB schools in Norway (NIBS). Students are using digital software to design their logo. The winning design will be the new NIBS logo. Let's go AIS!

We wish all students, staff and families a safe and relaxing winter break and a happy 2021!

Planning day

For our planning day we were extremely fortunate to have Kath Murdoch, who is an inquiry specialist, run a session with the entire PYP Staff including all the assistants, see above. We also invited PYP Coordinators from other International schools to continue to encourage beneficial collaboration with one another.

The session was based on:

- Building learner’s capacity to inquire more independently

- The role of shared and personal inquiry

- Bringing an inquiry stance to teaching across the curriculum

- Key teaching practices for effective inquiry

All participants left the session inspired and eager to embed what they learnt into the lessons to come.

We were also very proud with our PYP team for receiving 12 commendations as a result of the International Baccalaureate Evaluation Visit which took place October 2020.

The students in Grade 5 were introduced to a new initiative that centres around leadership in sport. This will be a program that develops as students progress through the school. The program aims to:

Develop leadership, organisation and communication skills

Improve students' confidence

Employment opportunities when students leave school

To give students the opportunity to give back to the school and wider community

Allow students to be role models

More information to follow shortly!

No 1 in Maths!

We are very proud of our 2020 Grade 5 students, pictured above, who scored No 1 in Maths amongst international schools in Norway in the Nasjonal Prøver they took earlier this year. Congratulations to the PYP team (and it is a whole team effort). A lot of graft has been done in an effort to improve provision and coverage.

The students are mostly students who have completed their primary education at Asker International School, which is why the outcome is important (we are a new school, only 7 years old). Not only that, we had to go through an evaluation with the International Baccalaureate in October this year (every 5 years), not to mention all the Covid hassle. Ergo the extra pride in the team and the kids. They've worked their socks off and it should be celebrated.

We also wish all the families celebrating Diwali this weekend a very happy celebration!

UN Day 2020

The theme for this year's UN Day is based on the importance of dialogue and communication. Students at AIS created dialogue within their classrooms as to what the world would be like in 2045. Students were set the task to create dialogue surrounding world issues. They then needed to come up with how their class can create action in their local community. The image above shows children wearing their traditional costumes from their home countries.

During October, we have also been acknowledging Dyslexia and we held a day when the entire school community wore red in support of #DyslexiaAwarenessMonth.

The PYP team was evaluated by the IB and they showcased their professionalism and knowledge in their classrooms as well as during individual interviews. Some children were also chosen to speak to the IB representatives.
