Grade 5 Exhibition

The Grade 5 students kicked off their PYP Exhibition this week. This year the students were able to choose a Central Idea that resonated with them and that was linked to the global theme of  “Health”. These are the Central Ideas that they will be working with for the next 8 weeks:

“People’s health can be impacted by where they are in the world at a local, national and global scale”

"Health and sustainability are global concerns and are connected in many different ways''

"Health is both a human right and a global industry, and conflicts can occur as a result"

“Fair access to healthcare requires balancing many different needs and resources”.

The students will showcase their findings online and they are very excited to get their hands on their research.

Chinese New Year

It is Chinese New Year Celebration Week at AIS! The week has had a great start, with a fantastic Chinese New Year assembly featuring all our MYP students. The celebration was a part of our Chinese language program, combined with cultural aspects in craft, art, and performances from each grade level in MYP. The school was filled with festive spirit as all students watched the MYP New Year performance videos and PYP students had great fun doing several enjoyable activities related to the Chinese New Year. Even with some restrictions related to Covid 19, MYP students were still actively engaged, independently creating their performances of dance, song, and plays. During our Chinese New Year celebration, they confidently demonstrated many IB Learner Profile attributes as they expressed themselves creatively in many ways and in more than one language. The Chinese New Year celebration helps to foster students' inquiry and make their learning authentic. A big thanks to all MYP students for making this event a great success at AIS. Excellent Job, MYP.

Eco Lighthouse certification

Asker International School is incredibly proud to have attained Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn) certification. This is one of many strategies the school is presently employing in its drive to embed a sustainability mindset into the culture of the organisation. Well done to Miss Mya and Mr Mark for making it happen!

Grade 9 has been creating campaigns in Norwegian for the safety of our students choosing among different themes. Take a look at our Facebook page and let us know what you think.

Grade 3 had the honor of speaking to a modern day explorer named Dave Cornthwaite. We had been learning about him during our explorers unit and during our transport unit. We learned more about his adventures around the world and were able to ask him questions. Thank you, Dave!

Mr. Andrew and Mr. Phil hosted a zoom meeting with PYP parents this week to give an insight into how PE is planned and delivered in the PYP at AIS. Lots of parents joined in on the meeting, and it was great to see so many faces. We hope you have a better understanding of our philosophy and are as excited as we are to see how PE at AIS is continuously developing to meet the needs of our students.

Red level school

The first week back of red level infection control for grades 1 to 7 ended and everything has gone well. The students have been quick at settling in their routines and the classes have been held with as much normalcy as is possible.

The playground is used for more than sledding and making snowmen, some of the P.E. lessons have been held outdoors too!

Although the tables and hands got very messy from the chalk pastels, the students in 3A had fun creating their Northern lights landscape during their Art lesson, pictured above.

Grade 1 has begun their fourth unit: Space Exploration! 1A was lucky enough to have Miss Deonne share her experiences at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with the children last week. The children loved learning about the International Space Station in particular.
