Earth Day 2021

This week we celebrated Earth Day at AIS. Miss Anja introduced Earth Day to the school community during a zoom assembly. This was a day for all of us to act as global citizens and to raise awareness about the importance of actively protecting the environment and the  world we live in. By the end of the day each class came up with a plan for a measurable action to reduce plastic waste. Some ideas included plastic-free lunches, a clean-up day in our community, or creating posters to raise awareness.

To celebrate Earth Day in Grade 1 we discussed the commitments and actions we would make to take care of our planet, see above.

It gets better

Thank you AIS community for your support during these weeks, it has been sincerely appreciated. This is just a polite reminder that if your child is showing symptoms relating to Covid please do not send them to school. Please arrange to have a test and keep the child at home until they receive a negative test result. If you (the parent) are also showing symptoms then also make sure that your child/children remain at home until you have received a negative test result. Siblings must also remain at home if someone in your household is in quarantine. Thank you for your continued support. Remember, it gets better!

Miss Helene and Mr Simon will be running a Zoom information session on MOT. The session will begin at 15:30 on Thursday April 15th and will run for 30 minutes. This has only been offered to parents who have children from G7-10. To access the meeting please use the link below and the teacher running the session will admit you into the meeting once it begins.

SFO Garden

SFO is very excited to start a new garden project. Last week, children in SFO planted kale, radish, lettuce, spring onion, sweet peas and bee-friendly flower seeds. In about 6-7 weeks when the seedlings are ready, we will transplant them outside. We are planning to start small first and develop gradually.

The garden will provide a hands-on outdoor learning environment with the focus on learning about balanced diets and nutrition, healthy food choices and sustainability, but also a supportive environment in which children can learn about patience and responsibility by taking care of plants.

As part of the research for Grade 5's Exhibition, both classes are launching this year's surveys tonight. The surveys are a central plank of the Exhbition, allowing the students to get a snapshot of people's current actions, attitudes and behaviours. We would be really grateful if you could fill out one (or both) of the surveys. They should take no more than 10 minutes of your time. The surveys are open to everyone, so please feel free to share them with your own family and friends. The more data the better!

Spanish e-pals

The students in Grade 8 and Grade 9 are very excited to be taking part in a Spanish e-pals project with two other IB schools: Dwight School in London and Pechersk School International in Kiev.

The aim for this project is to engage students in authentic opportunities for language use as well as enhance their understanding of cultural diversity by interacting with students from different cultural backgrounds.

Some students have already received their emails and will be writing an introductory email in response. This will allow them to put into practice the skills learnt in Spanish, such as explaining who they are, describing themselves, their likes and dislikes, talking about their families and their school. We are very much looking forward to developing this project and a working partnership with the schools involved.

The students in Grade 5 are looking to make contact with experts in the field of Health. If you are an expert and would like to get interviewed or talk about your work, please get in touch with the class teachers Mr. Eric and Mr. Jonathan at This email address is being protected from spambots.
