Move over Sochi, the peacelympics are in town!

The PEACElympics - a great success.

And many people to thank for it. Firstly, without a doubt our p.e. teacher Mr. Andrew - the mind that brought us this event. He organised a lovely event for all students. Secondly, the parents - for their support and involvement. It made the day all the more special for the kids. Thirdly all the staff at AIS who stayed with the kids throughout the day and were positive and supportive. Last and by no means least - the students. The reason we had the event in the first place!

Participation medals have been awarded to all students. The winners for most events are decided, but the house trophy and one or two events need to be decided before we can announce the winners.  We will announce these results by Friday 14th February.

Until then, congratulations everyone! May this be the first of many sports events at AIS....

First Saturday cinema a success

Our first Saturday cinema outing at the school was a success.

The students and parents gathered for a viewing of the movie 'Babe'. Popcorn and snacks were had by all. We had some soup for parents that Miss Linda had prepared the day earlier.

We will schedule a new Saturday cinema soon and next time we will arrange snacks not just for the kids but for the parents too.

Thanks to the parents group for helping to make this happen. And thanks to the parents and the kids for helping with the clean-up afterwards. Many hand most definitely make light work!

We will be in touch with more information soon!

Day of the Sámi People

xn sami

Today on the 6th February the first Sámi conference was held in Trondheim in 1917. Different events are carried out in Norway to celebrate the day. Up north you may find some reindeer racing. Down south you may see flags flying and the anthem being played in Oslo city hall and other locations.

We have one student with Sámi heritage. To recognise the day we simply wanted to make reference on our webpage and display the flag in each classroom. For those who celebrate this day, congratulations - gratulerer med dagen.

Equally, the treaty of Waitangi was signed on the same day in New Zealand in 184, which granted Māori rights to their land and to the rights of British citizenship, the merit of which was not really recognised until the treaty of Waitangi act in 1975.
