Overnight trips

Many of our students participated in overnight field trips these last couple of weeks. The trips are intended as a way for the students to bond with their classmates and get out and be active.

Grade 6A had a wonderful overnight trip to Sæteren Gård this week. Their trip was filled with smiles, laughter and plenty of activities such as climbing, football and zip line. Grade 6A demonstrated communication and collaboration skills while being caring towards their classmates.

Grade 9 survived their overnight trip to Blåfjellhytta! They walked all the way to the cabin and home the next day. They made food and set the tables with excellency. A great experience for all!

Grade 4A had a sleepover at Blåfjellhytta as well. The students learned how to make bruschetta, guacamole and a simple tomato sauce, they cleaned, played collaborative games, watched a movie and went on a hike. It was a great experience for all, even with the lack of sleep.

First day of school

On Monday, we were excited to open up our doors once again for all our returning and new students. The Grade 1 students were welcomed by their new teachers and proudly walked into their classrooms after a round of applause from their parents.

Something noteworthy was the enthusiasm of the returning students. There was a lot of positive energy as they greeted their friends and teachers.

The first day was busy, with teachers unpacking expectations and sharing with the students about who they are in MYP, to PYP teachers getting students to identify routines and rules in the classroom, engaging with students and creating a positive environment.

We hope this is the start of another excellent year at AIS!

Goodbye PYP

To celebrate the completion of the PYP Exhibition and to say goodbye to the PYP, the Grade 5 students were invited to a sleepover at the school. The night was filled with excitement and all the students had a marvelous time. The Grade 5s had worked very hard on their exhibition and demonstrated all the knowledge they had learned throughout the PYP years. Now, they are ready to start a new adventure in the MYP, good luck!

Our school podcast has now reached 1000 downloads. You can listen to it here:

The Munch Museum has been closed. However, Grade 8 students at Asker International School have shared their versions of his works this school year, being knowledgeable on the topic after researching about it during their Norwegian lessons. The topic of Edvard Munch was chosen to integrate learning about Norway's culture and art in Norwegian.

The new Munch museum was scheduled to open, as this got postponed the students will visit it next school year. The students learned about him, his autobiography, his changing styles of painting, what he has contributed with to art history and about the famous thefts of his paintings. They learned techniques to tell if a painting is good or not, and they chose their own summative assessments; creating a play on his painting and connected stories, and finally to make their own copy of one of his paintings and write a descriptive text based on what they see and feel only, no sources allowed. This was a challenging and fun activity.

India solidarity

As a response to the health crisis in India, AIS organized a fundraiser event where all the money collected was going to support UNICEF. We are proud to announce that out of our goal of 3000 NOK, we were able to raise over 33,000 NOK which highly exceeded our expectations.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause. We are very proud of the community that represents AIS. We were also lucky to see some of our teachers get soaked during the ice bucket challenge that was viewed by all the students through zoom.

During May, SFO will set up a small school garden in order to enrich the learning and provide an arena for sustainability education in practice. SFO believes that the school garden will lead to increased knowledge about nature and provide hands-on learning about nutrition as well as build enthusiasm, teamwork and perseverance. For this to happen, we need the help from the school community. If you would like to get involved with the SFO's garden project, in the form of cultivation tips, spare plants or garden tools / equipment and planters etc., we kindly ask you to get in contact with Miss Selma at This email address is being protected from spambots. We are looking forward to hearing from you and to seeing our garden grow with your help.
