Fulfilling Dreams for a thousand streams

We are very fortunate to live in a country that is very good at national charity drives.

The students at Asker International School wanted to start another one. This one is about the cleaning of fresh water sources around the world.

I encourage everyone in Norway to join in. If we all turn our charitable attention towards The Ocean Cleanup, an organisation that is attempting to clean plastics and other waste from our oceans and rivers, then maybe they can set even more ambitious goals for 2022. We will drive this for the month of February.

Science experiments

It has been a busy week for Science at AIS. The Grade 7 students conducted a scientific experiment to test different foods for the presence of starch, sugar and protein. The students were engaged and treated the equipment with great care.

Grade 1 have been making balloon rockets to try and understand how the thrust of a rocket works. They conducted a proper scientific investigation to see what factors affect the force of the rocket’s velocity.

Second Grade students took their Maths learning to the forest this week! Using watercolor paint, students created regular and irregular polygons.

It is with great pleasure that we get to announce the addition of a third grade 1 class at Asker International School! That's right! Now we will have 60 new grade 1 students joining our ranks in August.

The reason for this is growth, growth as an institute and not just in number. We want to show our current parent group and future parents that we are ready and willing to grow. We have the numbers and we have the reputation.

We started with 900m2 in 2013 and 36 children and AIS managed to negotiate more space to allow our growth. There may be a few bumps in the road, but our trajectory is up. We don't believe in settling. The leadership team in AIS are builders, and they and the staff at AIS have never been afraid of all the work it has taken to make AIS what it is today.

We are very excited to make this announcement and move towards 400 students in our ranks in August 2022. But this is not the end goal. There will be more development and more exciting things happening in the months and years to come!

A new year

We started a new year with well-rested students who are ready to go!

In Grade 4, the students created a class vocabulary wall consisting of words from our unit. They wrote the definition, part of speech, created a sentence using the word as well as drew a picture that represented the word. A great point of reference for the next 7 weeks!

To inquire into our new unit, the students in 5A came up with questions about migration to put on our wonder wall.

In 3A, we're looking at explorers. This week, we listened the Czech composer Dvorak's "From the New World" symphony. He wrote it while feeling homesick in New York, and we thought about what it made us feel, or what it reminded us of.

We will continue the testing and follow any government guidelines as they come up.
