Chinese New Year

The MYP students led a fantastic Chinese New Year celebration at our school.

Our celebration was graced by special guests, including Mayor Lene Conradi of Asker Kommune, Mr. Chang Quansheng, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy, and Mr Li Hui, Second Secretary of the Chinese Embassy.

A big thank you goes to Mr. Chang Quansheng for bringing delicious Chinese snacks and thoughtful gifts, enhancing the overall joy of our celebration. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved for making this celebration a remarkable showcase of cultural diversity, fostering understanding, embracing traditions, and creating lasting memories.

The assembly featured captivating performances, including the enchanting "Dance of the Lunar Dragon" and a soulful "Violin Performance - New Year song 'Mo Li Hua.'" The exceptional skills of our students were showcased through acts like "Mulan: A Short Play" and "Keyboard Performance - A Well-known Chinese Song 'Yi Jian Mei.'" The event also included a delightful "Chinese Zodiac Story Puppet Show and Interactive Play," bringing the tales of the Chinese zodiac to life. Beyond the stage, the joyous atmosphere extended to six cultural stations, offering hands-on experiences of various Chinese New Year traditions to PYP students, from crafting firecrackers to engaging in traditional Chinese games.

Educators from Korea

A delegation of 30 educators representing 15 prestigious schools in Korea visited AIS for the day to get an inside look at how we teach.

Their visits include Sweden followed by a school in Helsinki. The mayor of Asker was also in attendance to welcome the delegates and share a bit about the education system in the kommune.

This week we faced the challenges that winter in Norway has to offer, icy roads and snow storms. Please remember to keep your children warm with appropriate clothes and to be mindful of others on the road and parking area.

MILJØFYTÅRN

Asker International School (AIS) is a cetified Eco-Lighthouse organisation.

AIS is currently reapplying for our certificate for our new facilities.

Being an Eco-Lighouse organisation helps AIS keep a strong focus on our environmental footprint. We are required to track energy and waste quantities and endeavour to reduce our footprint wherever possible.

Asker International School aslo tries to encourage our partners to become Eco-Lighthouse organisations. We are mindful or our providers and try to look for opportunities to make business decisions with the environment in mind.

Waste at AIS

Below you will find some charts providing an overview of our waste. Our largest source of waste is paper and plastic. We are trying to reduce this number. We have comparatively low levels of food waste due to our focus in sustainability in food and nutrition lessons and the fact that we do not have a cantine in school.

Asker International School asks for input on climate and environmental efforts

Asker International School wants to contribute to a more sustainable world and will therefore take responsibility for our impact. An important part of our efforts is to be Eco-Lighthouse certified. This means that we have established an environmental management system that guides our climate and environmental work and helps us to improve continuously. The certification also contains specific requirements for the following topics: work health and safety, waste/reuse, energy, procurement, and transport. Every year, we report activity data which results in a greenhouse gas account, as well as results and statistics. This information provides a good overview of progress and potential for improvement, and is made publicly available.

Part of the Eco-Lighthouse certification addresses the interaction between companies and society. Customers, partners and other stakeholders are therefore invited to provide input on how the climate and environmental impact of our goods / services can be improved. The input gives us useful insight on what needs and expectations you have for Asker International School in the coming years.
