A nice event

saturday cinema

Saturday cinema was a nice event and our first weekend event this year. For our next Saturday outing we will probably split up the groups as there was quite the age spread. For once, rainy weather would have been good on the day but it was an enjoyable affair nonetheless.

Thank you also to all who helped in the clean-up. There were so many helping it only took 5-10 minutes. Great stuff!

Saturday Cinema - Our first weekend event this school year

filmreel

We would like to invite parents and children to our first weekend event, Saturday Cinema. We had a few cinema events last year, however this year I feel we may need to break up the groups into senior and lower groups, but we can evaluate that later. For now, all grades are welcome and hopefully the kids will have fun. They usually do!

The film selection will be posted next week. The time and date is on the school calendar and has been emailed home.  I look forward to meeting the students and parents at the, hopefully, first of many Saturday events.

Information from Parent Meeting

It was very positive to see such a turn-out for the parents information evening. The teachers will be posting an overview of their respective presentations on their blogs this week for those who were not in a position to attend.

In addition to this, information was given on the following points:

  • If you want a bus pass for your child, the correct address needs to be registered on 'folkregisteret'. You can get a free bus pass for a child if:
In 1st Grade they live 2km away within Asker and Bærum
In 2nd-10th grade they live 4km away within Asker and Bærum
These are the rules of the municipality, not the school.

  • If parents move house at all, the school needs to be informed. We are not informed by the authorities

  • If your child has a medical condition, even mild or controlled, please let us know.

  • There is a child with a sever nut allergy in the building. No nuts please, no nut spread. Please see our webpage for more information.

  • We will evaluate if/how extra Norwegian will be facilitated. We are looking at where time will be best used and who needs it most.

  • Information will be sent out about the parent council to the nominated representatives tomorrow. They are to hold elections next week. Information will then be circulated to all parents.

  • Bus transport being organised is an independent venture and is not regulated is managed by the school, in accordance with Norwegian law.

  • Please read the parent handbook. There may be some items missing, however most of the questions we have received are covered in the handbook. Equally, please let me know if there is anything missing or incorrect.

  • Please read the blogs. They are there for you and your children.

First Fire Drill of the year

firedrill

Dear parents,

Today at 09:15 we had our first fire drill. The children, as always, did a very good job at exiting the building. They lined up in single file and exited quietly and in order, following the instruction of their teacher.

It did however take too long. It took 5 minutes and we largely believe this was due to exiting in single file down the stairwell. What we will practice the next time is the efficacy of exiting the building in parallel. I would ideally like the timing to be around 2:30-3:00 minutes.

Ultimately, we were very happy with the performance of both staff and students and most importantly the students know what to do in the event of the fire alarm ringing.

Please commend your child when they come home on a job well done.
