The Primary School PYP Coordinator is an informed, reflective and model practitioner who uses inquiry learning strategies within the PYP framework to create positive learning environments which motivate and challenge all learners to become self-­regulated, life-­long learners and leaders.

Consistent with Asker International School policies, the Primary School PYP Coordinator, alongside the Senior Management Team, will act as a crucial part of pedagogical leadership in the PYP in the school. The position holder will have a commitment to collaborative planning and is responsible for ensuring that pedagogical aspects are discussed, information is disseminated and the PYP is planned, taught and assessed collaboratively.

The Primary School PYP Coordinator is responsible for:

Pedagogical Leadership/Development of the PYP

Create/maintain “PYP Action Plan”

In collaboration with senior management, provide on­site professional development related to the PYP requirements and action plan items

Identify professional development opportunities of staff, always ensuring that IB requirements are met.

Lead staff meetings and ensure a transparent overview of meeting structures are available to all staff at all times.

Plan/coordinate annual “POI Review”

Ensure specialist teachers receive support for the implementation of the programme.

Ensure new teachers are equipped to deliver the programme.

Collaborate with teachers when developing the Programme of Inquiry, to ensure transparency and development, both horizontal and vertical.

Encourage best practice in the school by modeling through own practice.

Encourage an inquiry­based, internationally minded learning environment

Ensure the PYP Exhibition is embraced as a whole­school activity and developed properly in the school.

Communication/Collaboration

Help maintain systems of collaboration related to the implementation of the PYP

Communicate with stakeholders and the wider community regarding the implementation of the PYP at the school

Provide communication channels between the IB and AIS.

Meet regularly with the school principal to plan for the development of the PYP

Respond to surveys and requests from the IB and share these with appropriate staff members, as needed

Coordinate PYP visits to/ from other IB schools

Keep the staff informed of developments at the IB that impact the school

Coordinate and facilitate Exhibition and keep stakeholders informed of their activities

Schedule training sessions for the parent group during the year (1 or two evenings)

Ensure communication about parent teacher conferences and student-­led conferences go out to all stakeholders in a timely fashion.

Ensure the learner profile and other key aspects of the Primary Years Programme are communicated to all stakeholders at regular intervals.

To understand and promote all PYP documentation published by the IB.

Resource Management

Provide staff access to information published by the International Baccalaureate

Encourage the use of the OCC

Maintain and update managebac, the online curriculum centre

Help locate resources to support the implementation of the PYP

Assist SMT in the maintaining and developing school policies and documentation in line with IB requirements.

Asker International School is a new school recently established within the municipality of Asker kommune. The school will expand to grades 1-­8 in August 2016 and will continue to expand on an annual basis up to parallel grades from grade 1 to grade 10. We started with 37 students in 2013 and expect over 200 in August 2016.

 

Our Middle Years classrooms are vibrant learning communities. Student numbers have been capped at 20 to ensure a good learning environment. Our classrooms are truly international communities.

 

Such classrooms require multiple learning groups to ensure that all students are developing at their level. None are left behind, none are left waiting.

 

We are looking for an individual that possesses the drive, enthusiasm and creativity to excel in such an environment.

 

We are seeking a teacher who:

 

Is a qualified teacher (that is recognised by the Norwegian department of education)

 

Has a positive work ethic and is used to collaborating and sharing ideas

 

Has experience working with different subject areas in the Middle Years (grades 6-10)

 

Is a skilled practitioner and capable of differentiating to facilitate the language needs of a multi-

cultural community.

 

Can promote a well organised and stimulating learning environment in line with school policy.

 

Shows genuine enthusiasm and demonstrates a positive approach to students.

 

Will be a committed contributor to the development of the school curriculum

 

Has good IT skills and is familiar with different formats of word processing in different

 

applications, like blogs and web-pages.

 

Aims to continuously improve their teacher practice and responds positively to feedback

 

Will be an adaptable member of a changing school environment

 

Ideally has experience in an international school environment

 

Ideally has experience with the IB

 

This contract is based upon an initial 6 month probationary period. It is important to note that a permanent contract cannot be offered until qualifications have been recognised.
