Staff were busy working on the first principle of assessment for learning (vurdering for læring) “The students understand what they are to learn and what is expected of them.“
It was great to see teachers from grades 1 to 8 collaborating and sharing notes on this topic, discussing the merits of assessment and student involvement in their learning. In Norwegian, for example, they were looking at the importance of 'correct' feedback, because providing negative feedback leads to negative outcomes.
It was interesting to see the different techniques employed by the different teachers throughout the school. It was also encouraging to see a commonality in their focus and drive on student assessment and feedback.
